India is ranked the third largest consumer of whiskey in the world. Most distilled spirits that are labelled as “whisky” in India and cannot be sold as whisky in most traditional whisky markets. Indian whisky is not particularly well known outside of its domestic market. The first Indian Single Malt whisky was introduced in 2004. Because of the higher temperatures single malt in India matures much faster than in Scotland. This is not to their detriment. Indian single malt whiskies are known for their fruity, malty character.
